Spraying a Wood Ceiling

When spraying a wood ceiling, proper preparation is very crucial to a successful project.  Failures are common if the ceiling is not thoroughly scraped and sanded and then cleaned with either water or compressed air to remove preparation contaminants.

This is done in order to achieve proper paint adhesion.

If you look closely while watching the first video, you can see one area that has been scraped, sanded and recleaned to remove preparation contaminants.  The surface must be thoroughly sanded so after the painting is complete you have a smooth and uniform look.

In the video below, you can see the technician actually spraying the ceiling.  He has very fluid movements in order to achieve proper MIL thickness throughout the project.  All quality painters should carry a MIL gauge with them at all times and periodically check to ensure they’re putting down an even coat of paint throughout the surface being painted.

After a very thorough preparation process, the ceiling received one coat of Sherwin Williams Alkyd Dryfall.  This is an excellent product that will hold a great color and gloss retention for many years to come.
